The Pirc Defence - Nigel Davies (Full DVD) | Chessbase Fritz Trainer
The Pirc Defence is a highly flexible and double-edged opening with which Black can avoid premature simplification and go for the full point. By first developing his kingside he waits to see how White will deploy his own forces before striking back in the most effective way. The top exponents of the Pirc include Mikhail Gurevich, Alexander Chernin, Jan Timman, Yasser Seirawan, Jonathan Speelman, Zurab Azmaiparpashvili and Alexander Belyavsky; in the past it was a great favourite of Mikhail Botvinnik and Tony Miles. Here Nigel Davies explains the ideas and backs this up by showing exactly how Black should react to White‘s different formations. Video running time: 7 hours.
Davies has been a Grandmaster since 1993 and is a former British Open Quickplay and U21 Champion. He has had a lot of experience with the Pirc having played it extensively throughout his career.

Positional chess in the basic on which success is founded. Of course material can be won and also points achieved by tactical measures, but first you have to bring the relevant positions up on your board. Jacob Aagaard teaches in six lectures important principles of positional play. The Accelerated Dragon is much more than just a dynamic yet solid means of countering 1.e4. By knowing how to counter the Maroczy Bind Black can counter both the English and Reti Openings and even develop the basis of a defence against 1.d4.
Whilst having been used extensively by superstars such as Bent Larsen and Tigran Petrosian, Davies argues that the Accelerated Dragon is an even more effective proposition for club players. As he explains on this DVD, many White players are under the mistaken impression that the positions are like a regular Sicilian Dragon.
