Download Facing the World Champions - Vlastimil Hort ( Full DVD ) for Free | Chessbase Fritz Trainer
During his career, Vlastimil Hort, who himself belongs to the same generation as Bobby Fischer, met no less than eight world champions over the board. In the early 60s he crossed swords with Mihail Tal, and at the end of the eighties he was sitting over the board from Garry Kasparov. Between the two there were meetings with chess legends Botvinnik, Petrosian, Smyslov, Spassky, Fischer and Karpov.
On this DVD the Czech-German grandmaster looks back to these encounters and devotes a chapter to each of the world champions, Thus we have eye-witness accounts which form a personal gallery of chess world champions, during which we get not only a presentation of the games but also details and stories of things which happened off the board and in the wings, as it were. So, for example, Hort tells us about his phone call from Botvinnik, about Bobby Fischer‘s „frenemy“ and describes the shadowy figure of the political minder...
Vlastimil Hort was born in Prague in 1944 and won the grandmaster title in 1965. Among his great successes are the qualification for the WCh Candidates’ tournament of 1977 in which he reached the quarter finals in Reykjavik, only just going down to ex world champion Boris Spassky. Hort won the Czech championships on several occasions, and after taking German nationality in 1986 he was also German champion on several occasions. For over 30 years he took part in many chess Olympiads for both of these countries, starting with 1960 in Leipzig, and finishing in 1992 in Manila. Vlastimil Hort is best known to the German public for his appearances with Helmut Pfleger as a team of commentators in TV programs.

The famous chessplayer and composer André Danican Philidor not only focused the attention of coming generations on the importance of pawns in the game of chess, he also worked out the basis of a new opening in which Black from the very first moves is trying to construct a solid pawn setup in the centre. Nowadays the Philidor Defence is mostly played via the Pirc move order 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 e5. Black is not afraid of the endgame after 4.dxe5. This is proved by the recommendations given in the DVD as well as by the serious amount of high level games played with the line. The author presents a full opening repertoire against 1.e4 covering also all possible side lines such as 3.Bd3, 3.f3 etc. In the main line he gives the reader the possibility to choose his own favourite plan according his tastes. In modern chess - full of information, games and analysis - it is important to have new ideas and fresh openings. The Philidor Defence DVD provides you with exactly that! Video running time: 5 hours

The Maroczy System - Sergei Tiviakov (Full DVD) | Chessbase Fritz Trainer
The Maroczy System of the Sicilian Defence is one of the modern openings where Black attacks the white centre mainly with pieces. After the moves 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 5.c4 Nf6 the pawns c4 and e4 secure White a space advantage in the middle, however, it is exactly these central pillars which may easily become targets of the black counterattack. Sergei Tiviakov has been applying this system with Black in his tournament practice since 1991 and is considered one its greatest experts. His explanations make it easy to understand the black set-up where recognizing typical recurring piece manoeuvres is far more important than concrete knowledge of variations. The Maroczy System can be learned within the shortest of time, and due to its solidity it is best suited to score good results even against strong opponents. Video running time: 3 h 15 min.
Born in Krasnodar (Soviet Union), Sergei Tiviakov was a member of the Smyslov school and gained the titles of World Youth Champion at U16 and U18 levels. In the PCA-World Championships, he reached the candidates‘ matches in 1994; in the same year he represented Russia in the Chess Olympiads. Although he has considered himself a professional chess player since 1989, Tiviakov also finished his degree in agricultural economics. Since 1997 Tiviakov has been living in Groningen and he has become a naturalised citizen of the Netherlands. With his new home country he won the title in the European Teams Championships in both 2001 and 2005 and was victorious in the championship of the Netherlands in 2006 and 2007.

Sicilian Defense with 2.c3 - Alapin Variation : Sergei Tiviakov ( Full DVD ) | Chessbase Fritz Trainer
I started playing the line 1.e4 c5 2.c3 in the Sicilian Defense as White in 1988. Since then I have employed it in more than 100 games, achieving a high performance score. My personal peak were the years 2005 - 2006, when I managed to win twelve 2.c3-games in a row. Yet I also know the other side of the coin – countless times I had to face this opening with Black when the opponents wanted to avoid my Dragon, for example during the World Candidates Match against Adams in New York in 1994. White tries to occupy the centre with a second pawn, and Black must know his stuff very well in order to be able to equalize. And this is only possible with 2...Nf6 – all other lines give the first player a small edge everywhere. Especially against stronger opponents, 2.c3 is an excellent weapon. If White doesn‘t risk anything, he cannot lose! Controlling the game, he can always make a draw from a position of strength. In contrast, playing for a win with Black is always connected with a extremely high risk, and we have seen many games when much higher rated players were completely smashed by White. In comparison with the main lines of the Sicilian, there is much less theory to study – and yet a lot of room for improvement for both sides. Video running time: 4 hours. See you too – with 2.c3!
