ChessBase Magazine 119 Full DVD
This summer issue focuses on three top tournaments: Dortmund, the Candidates matches in Elista (Kalmykia) and the tournament in Foros (Ukraine). On one hand, in Dortmund the struggle for victory in the tournament was over relatively quickly on account of the great levels of concentration and the determination of the World Champion Vladimir Kramnik, which seemed to rob the tournament as a whole of some of the necessary tension. On the other, in Elista and only a few days later in the Crimea the interest was maintained from the beginning till the end of the contest. At the end of the Candidates matches in Elista it was Levon Aronian, Boris Gelfand, Peter Leko and Alexander Grischuk who secured the last highly sought-after places for the WCh tournament, which will be fought out in Mexico City in September. On the DVD Carlsen annotates his win over Aronian, and Boris Gelfand explains one of the six hotly contested draws he had with the FIDE World Champion of 2004, Rustam Kasimdzhanov. The super-tournament in Foros on the Crimean peninsula turned out to be like a home game for the top Ukrainian players Vassily Ivanchuk and Serge Karjakin. The latter led the field for a long time, but was caught on the finishing line by his experienced compatriot. On the DVD Karjakin annotates his victory over Loek van Wely, who for his part examines his own prize-winning victory against Dimitrij Jakovenko. A further highlight of this issue is van Wely's video commentary on his game against Guseinov in the President's Cup in Baku.
